Keeping it fresh with Mapflex Africa’s Movers and Shakers
Mapflex exists to keep things fresh and the latest addition to our team is certainly a blast of fresh! Mike Steytler is the new Head of Plant overseeing our operation here in the Fairest Cape.
Having made his mark at Constantia Flexibles, Mike has a wealth of business acumen and industry experience. His attention to detail and potent organisational skills have already made their mark on operations here in South Africa and the improvement has been palpable from his very first day.
Mike is responsible for everything that happens on-site within the South African manufacturing site:
His focus is keeping things cost-effective and efficient, so that service delivery is better than ever and the cost of business – and our products – is as low as it can be without ever compromising on quality.
Growing the team gives us all space to focus on our core work. Bringing Mike on board has allowed me to expand into my new role as General Manager of Mapflex International, which includes both our South African operation and our East African operation, based in Nairobi.
With the SA business in such capable hands, I can take more of a big-picture view of the business and the technology that goes into making it really work.
Improving shelf life
I am particularly enjoying being able to devote even more time to business development. As I work with customers directly, I can help them solve challenges by conveying the best use of modified atmosphere packaging technology for their purposes.
This has some very practical, direct benefits for our clients.
As you know, in January we shared a stand at Fruit Logistica with the Perfotec team. While we were there we had the opportunity to connect with many of our clients and partners, particularly those in the UK, who get a lot of their fresh produce from Kenya. We were inspired by the range of problems we can solve for them, and as a result we have some exciting work planned with the Nairobi team.
We can’t reveal the details just yet, but I know you’ll be thrilled when we do … so watch this space!
